You will be missed ” Saza” Your new journey begins

Today we said goodbye to our beautiful old girl Saza. She had been many months under supportive care by IV fluid and medicines.

She began to refuse her normal food, so we tried to find many types of food to please her appetite. That met with varying degrees of success, depending on the day. We let her do as she would like to enjoy the rest of her time, often meaning staying in the company of her close friend Janpeng.

Some evenings, when other elephants had gone to their shelter for dinner , we let Saza wander around the park, returning before dark.

Two days ago she refused to go back , and we knew that her time was near and she was ready to go.

Our team stayed day and night to watch her. Dr. Jae still gave to her IV fluids, but Saza, after sleeping for almost 6 hours, left us . Even when one is prepared for loss, there is such an emptiness left by their passing. Her soul is free now .
