Jokia

jokia

Jokia was born around 1960 and her name means ‘Eye From Heaven’.  ENP rescued Jokia in 1999 from illegal logging and excessive abuse. She suffered a miscarriage while pulling a log uphill, and was not allowed to stop working to check if her calf was dead or alive. This event caused Jokia extreme physical and emotional trauma, and she refused to go back to work. As a result, she was deliberately blinded in both eyes on two separate occasions by two different  mahout/owners. Despite her blindness, she moves confidently with the help of her best friend, Mae Perm. She and Mae Perm have been best friends since 1999. They have the longest friendship in the ENP.

  1. Hello my name is Sylvie. I’m french and I live near Paris.
Today I’m just sent a donation as a sponsor for Jokia the blind elephant.
I’m very touched and deeply sad about what happened to her in the past.
Human beeings can be so cruel and especially those “mahouts” and their cruel business !…
All the animal abuse everywhere in the world is awful and not acceptable for us.
I really care for elephants !
    I love you Jokia !

  2. Bonjour Sylive! It was very kind of you to donate on behalf of Jokia and the for the support! Merci Beaucoup!
