Jarunee

Jarunee was born around 1950. She worked in both illegal and legal logging as well as trekking. She was rescued from a nearby trekking camp in 2007. Like most elephants, she endured considerable abuse in her working life and has many scars to show for it. When she first arrived she was very shy and it took her a long time to find a friend. Finally she connected with another old lady named Mae Geao. The two gained confidence from their friendship and began really enjoying their retirement. Things got even better when Malai Tong also befriended Jarunee. Mae Gaeo, passed away in May 2012, but with Malai Tong by her side, Jarunee recovered quickly. Today, both she and Malai Tong are part of the Yindee family group.  Jarunee loves being part of a herd and despite her blindness is very confident.
