Hope
Hope was born around August 2000. His mother was a trekking elephant who was forced to stop working due to illness.
She and Hope were kept in the jungles near their owner’s village, where she died from liver flukes. Hope was weak and needed special care. His owners could not afford to buy the milk formula needed to sustain him. They contact Lek and asked if she would take care of him. He came to ENP in March 2002 and was bottle fed for the next year. Soon after his arrival he was adopted by Mae Perm and later also looked after by Mae Somboon.
Hope has never worked a day in his life, has never had his spirit broken and is trained using only positive reinforcement techniques.
He is strong-willed and confident, has fathered a son – Navann – and is now in a large enclosure where he can roam chain-free 24 hours per day!
