This week Lek, Darrick and Elephant Nature Park had the pleasure of welcoming Roxy and Craig Danckwerts from Wild is Life Trust located in Zimbabwe, Africa. The Danckwerts have been running a wildlife rehab center for 17 years, caring for many animals native to Zimbabwe. Only in the past few years have they taken in young/orphaned African elephants. They accept a maximum of 15 visitors each day for a short visit to learn about the animals in their care and the difficulties they face due to poaching and habitat loss in the wild. Though there are many differences between African and Asian Elephants, there is still much to learn by sharing Knowledge and experiences.

The Danckwerts travelled to Asia to gather new ideas and practices in animal husbandry, specifically elephants and exchange insights regarding conservation from an ethical tourism point of view.

Hearing their stories and looking at their website, gets us dreaming about a visit to Zimbabwe!! How about you?
