Elephant Nature Park’s Newest Arrival: MaDee
Can you imagine living a life of traveling all over a country to serve people for their entertainment? This was the life of 65 year-old MaDee before she was rescued by Elephant Nature Park in mid-June this year. She was a trekking elephant who worked in Pai and then was moved to Krabi where she continued to work for many years. However, she was eventually taken back to Pai to continue working.
Her original name was Pachuli, but in order to give her a fresh start she was given a new name that she won’t associate with her life of suffering, her new name is MaDee which translates as ‘Good luck”. Since arriving at Elephant Nature Park, MaDee has continued to adjust to her new life free of abuse and neglect. Every day she learns to understand that she is able to roam as she pleases, yet she is still skeptical of her new freedom. As she gets to know the other members of the herd, there is no doubt she will be included into one of the smaller family groups as she is a lovely and gentile old giant.
