Arrival of Meeboon, our latest member.
50 year old lady ‘Mee Boon’ has been saved and arrived at Elephant Nature Park on 12 June 2019.
Mee Boon used to work in a tourist camp. Prior to this, she worked for a logging industry. She lost sight in her left eye from an unknown injury. A few months after she was sold to last owner, her right eye lost vision so she became completely blind. This made her life more difficult to work at the camp as the place was full mountainous terrain and the elephants must walk through creek and water. As Mee Boon was blind, she could no longer walk like other elephants and do the same things she used to do before. Therefore she ended up
spending her life doing nothing and standing in the same place for years at the camp.
When it comes to her rescue, we’d like to thank Allene Lapides from Santa Fe, New Mexico who donates funds to take Mee Booon out of her misery. Thanks to the group of Trunks Up Santa Fe, to Singleton Rankin and all her team who have helped to bring a new life to this beautiful lady.
From this day, we are privileged to provide care for Mee Boon. She will not have to work or feel frightened any longer. Instead, she will be able to roam around freely in nature where she deserves to be and surrounded by love and care from Elephant Nature Park and other elephants.

It is so sad that so many elephant’s are blinded by unscrupulous mahouts. The elephant abuse must end. People are tired of reading about this and so am I. Everyday I read of another elephant that has been abused by a mahout. Blinding the elephant is crueler than cruel. Let’s END this abuse!!
