Banana Boy, our latest member arrived at Elephant Nature Park
Happiness of elephants is the greatest reward for Elephant Nature Park.
On 7th August 2019 a little traveled a long way from Samutprakarn to his new home in Chiang Ma.
His name is ‘Gluay Hom’ or Banana Boy. He had lived in a crocodile farm for years to perform and entertain people.
He was tightly chained. He had a bent swollen leg and a wound at his temple.
The picture of his plight was published in National Geographic that brought out readers’ attentions to call out for help to release this elephants. Nevertheless, under Thai law – he is considered property. We were not able to buy or free him unless we have his owner permission to sell or relinquish him.
However, after the a period of negotiation, Save Elephant Foundation managed to made a deal to purchase him. After getting the paper work done, we traveled to Samutprakarn and brought him to his new home at Elephant Nature Park by trunk.
On his 14 hours of journey, Gluay Hom looked stressed, worried and nervous. Apparently he had no clue where he would be taken to.
Now he has landed safely at ENP. We will give him sometime to adjust to his new home : life without chain and fear.
He will live in a quarantined area for a while. His new home is quite large, surrounded by nature, plenty of tree and grass and close by the river. We provide mud to bath and proper amount of healthy diet.
As soon as we can make sure that he’s fine and adjusted, we will bring him to the main park area to introduce him to the elephant herds and find him potential nannies.
Thanks to The Greater Good, Abraham Foundation, and Trunk Up New York who help to donated to rescue this beautiful boy.
