Bua Baan and Boon Mee

In October, Save Elephant Foundation’s founder Lek Chailert rescued these two friends.  Since their arrival to Elephant Nature Park, they have bonded with Bai Cha who was rescued in the same time frame.  The original rescue plan was just to rescue Boon Mee but it was clear Bua Baan needed our help and we could not break up their wonderful friendship.

Boon Mee is one of the oldest elephants at the park now, born in the 1940’s. She was still working hard at a trekking company in the south-east of Thailand when she was rescued. She was skinny and unhealthy, her body was tired of the years of work. After years of trying we were able to rescue Boon Mee and her friend thanks to Khun Weena Monkhong and her friends. Also, Khun Jassy Sodanam who helped collect funds to rescue Boon Mee. Now She will receive all of our love and care so she can be happy elephant living the good life.

Bua Baan is the younger of the two, she was born in the 1970’s. She is completely blind but was still working in the trekking industry when she was rescued in October 2016. We are so happy we are able to provide her a life of peace and happiness with her best friend.
