Working Days Are Over
Bai Cha has had a long history in the work force of Thailand. Born in the 1950’s, she was originally from an area in the North of Thailand called Mae Jeam. Her first owner lived in a Karen tribe, where she was unofficially owned by many families where each family switched to use her each year. Her early life consisted of pulling logs in logging, where she continued to work in the industry for many decades. After the logging ban in 1989, her owner moved her to work in tourist riding.
She began moving around Thailand frequently when she was sold from her home in the North, down to Surin. From Surin, she was taken to the South of Thailand to work in logging again. After some years back in logging, she returned to giving rides to tourists around Southern Thailand. Her most recent owner moved her to Pattaya to work in a tourist camp. Her ankles were very sore from the years of hard work which has resulted in difficulty walking.
In September of 2016 Bai Cha arrived to Elephant Nature Park. Now she is able to get back to nature and live the rest of her life in peace. Since her arrival, Bai Cha has found comfort in bonding with two other new arrivals that arrived shortly after her, Boon Mee and Bua Baan.
