Mega Metamorphosis
It has been more than ten years campaigning to convince camp owners to join our saddle-off program. To make a change, some practices that people have done for many decades must be challenged. This brings with it many problems, but the elephant is our priority and we will not remove our gaze from them and their well-being. Patience and long-suffering is our mantra, even I [the SEF founder, Sangduen “Lek” Chailert] get attacked (sometimes from places that you would never expect !) so we try to avoid the human politics. I always hope that one day I can become the friend of those who have lost their way, and then we can work together. It is never about us, but our work is for the benefit of the elephants. This day we can see many things are changing. Many elephant camp owners are changing their minds. Many of them contact us to come to visit and learn from our project and send their staff to learn and practice at our project. Many welcome our team to work and assist their project to make better lives for the elephants. Today, one of the elephant places at Pitsanulok province joined our saddle-off program. Fourteen elephants will be free from riding and become the natural herd, enjoying the beauty of their native habitat. This is the first day to take them on a walk.

I am so pleased and proud that “Lek” Chailert and her wonderful, freed elephant camp, could influence
and help to train other camps to do the right thing for the elephants and let them be free and not exploited
by the humans. It brings joy to my heart, all of the documented animals and events that she has shared
in and she is surely a powerful force for bringing elephants and people in the right perspective, without
suffering or abuse of any kind. What a wonderful world this can be! Blessings!
