Kham La
Kham La (meaning darling) was born in 2011. At that time her mother was working at a trekking camp in Kanchanaburi. As is the norm in the working elephant world, Kham La was separated from her mother and put through the breaking ceremony so she would submit to humans. She also began training to perform in an elephant show. Because of this intensive training, she developed stereotypic behaviour which has only diminished slightly since her arrival. Thankfully, we were able to rescue and re-unite Kham La with her mother Mae Sai Ngern and bring to ENP to start a new life. Kham La was very happy to be with her mother once again. Her mother was afraid to re-connect with Kham La as the loss of her the first time was very painful. Kham La is enjoying her new life of freedom here at ENP and is beginning to attract the attention of perspective nannies.
