It is with sad hearts that we inform you that beautiful Mae Dta Keow has passed away. Her best friends, Mintra and Mae Jampaa, were by her side, along with vets, staff and volunteers of Elephant Nature Park.
Mae Dta Keow, which means “Green Eyes” in Thai, was rescued from a trekking camp and brought to the safe haven of Elephant Nature Park in 2004. Like most elephants in Thailand, she had also spent time working in the logging industry.
As with all elephants of our herd who have passed on, a proper Buddhist ceremony was held to send her off. A monk and community elders led the funeral with prayers and chanting, while incense and flowers surrounding her final resting place. Donations to our Memorial Fund are greatly appreciated.
Rest in peace, sweet girl.
