New Life For Cats Rescued From Torture

We have rescued many cats and dogs over the years, but this case is absolutely horrific. The suffering of these animals was unconscionable. The living conditions of cats in cages, lying in filth and among rotting corpses, admits of a crime against the innocent – each room of the house, the stench, row upon row of rib cages and bodies barely moving. Many animals, sigh upon sigh in their final moments before reaching the veterinary hospital.
So many died before we could reach them. Of the survivors, their state is apathetic torpor, sluggish with no will to live. I hold an image that can’t be shaken, of a paw stretching out from behind bars while the other gripped the cage tightly before dying, eyes widened in despair.
There was little fresh air left to breathe. Volunteers soon entered and had to run out, to vomit and catch their breath in order to continue working. Yet some of these cats and dogs have been inside for years, enduring this fate, victims surviving until today. The struggle, the interminable waiting for kindnesses to be spent on them.

Dead cats lay on the floor, under the cabinets, in nooks and crannies. So much pain and suffering before their deaths – cages littered lifeless decomposing bodies, while others retch nearby, hunger abated only by consuming the flesh of their friends.
Bags of dog and cat corpses were piled in corners, and even the fridge was filled with cat corpses, putrid and wicked.
This was no animal shelter, as the owner claimed, but a slaughterhouse and animal cemetery.
Confinement leaves animals without freedom. Leaving them starving to death in their cages was clearly an act of abuse. It was a cold-blooded act of cruelty to innocent animals.
To this day, our Foundation has rescued thousands of cats. Many people who visit our place wonder why we try to help so much. Surely this is one answer to hundreds of reasons. These animals have nowhere to go. We cannot turn our backs on them. To date, Thailand has no clear laws to protect their welfare. We cannot ignore them and allow them to be abused further. We will update soon.
