An Update From Kaya

AND HERE COMES KAYA’S HAPPY TALE!!! Thank you Christa!!

Hi Sabrina,
This is Emily’s mom.
Kaya is doing very well. She had a rough time on the flight over, but our vet told us she’s be right as rain in 3-4 days – and she was. She gave up resting in her crate (which we still make available to her) after 5 days, and watched where the other dogs would rest – on the couch, in dog beds under my desk, or on the queen size bed. Those were much more to her liking… She loves helping with daily chores – feeding the chickens, geese and turkey, and patrols her acre for rats and wild rabbits with extreme dedication. When her dog friends won’t play (they are both older), she plays with the cat, chasing her around the house and up the cat stand. She is a quick learner, very smart, and has adapted to our routines with no trouble at all. She’s never had an accident in the house, and is quite the little lady in the car.

It took us a while to find food she liked, and though she is getting less finicky, her favorite are still venison and duck (and tortilla chips, when she can get some)! An occasional fresh egg won’t be turned down either. Her favorite spot to eat was on the deck – since she doesn’t like to be rushed by the other dogs, but now with the weather getting colder, she like the ottoman at the windowsill better.
She is perfect at “stay”, doesn’t see the point in “sit”, and getting better at “come” – but we are still very careful, since once she is off with her nose to the ground, she forgets to listen to anyone! Walking on a leash is a work in progress too – since she is just to excited and eager to experience every smell, every sound, and every sight… Walking with the older dogs has helped, but only after her initial exploration time is done… She loves to run, run, run and luckily her large yard gives her that opportunity…
I often call her “Krazy Kaya”, but she is such a joy, a gentle soul, and a wonderful addition to our family. Thank you for helping that happen. .
-Christa
