Description
When our team learned about the plight of Chaba and her mother BunMa, we went to the camp to see how we could help them. We found the mother and baby in a small concrete pen, barren of any enrichment and the mother on a short chain.
Our founder was able to negotiate their release to Elephant Nature Park, and on Wednesday August 11, 2021, our team went to rescue the mother and baby. Originally they were going to be transported to ENP on a truck, but BunMa was very nervous about getting onto the truck, perhaps because she was worried she would be separated from her baby. To ease their stress the decision was made for them to walk to our sanctuary instead. After a 2 hour journey, they arrived at ENP and were welcomed with an elephant cake.
Now, as a teenage mother with the gates of freedom flung open, BunMa’s inner child has come out to play. Sometimes she spends more time at play than her own baby, but she is still a good mother and is dedicated to her little girl, Chaba.
